A Community for International Talent

The business model and innovation ecosystem of Y-Lab have gained widespread recognition in both academic and industrial circles domestically and internationally. A number of distinguished scientists and technology experts from various countries have joined Y-Lab.

Our Research Facilities

Y-Lab, comprises two main parks. The 170,000 square meter InnoPark is a state-of-the-art, purpose-built facility that has already welcomed over 500 researchers into its premises. The second facility, SciPark, spans an impressive 600,000 square meters and is scheduled to be ready for occupancy by 2025.

 

Additionally, an open and shared R&D verification platform, the Micro-Nano Fabrication center, the Materials Analysis and Testing Center have been put into full operation. The Y-Inno Incubator has also commenced official operations. Preliminary work for the Material Digitalization Center and the Green Chemical Engineering and New Materials Pilot Verification Platform is steadily progressing.

 

These facilities are designed to support the entire innovation chain, from basic and applied research to technology verification.

 

Our Research Progress

For the first time globally, Y-Lab has realized room-temperature tensile ductility in ceramics, with the results published in Science.

 

Its self-developed human eye simulation device won the sole first prize in the Innovation Zone at the International Display Week in 2024, making Y-Lab the first Chinese institution to claim this top honor at IDW.

 

In the field of micro-nano manipulation and organoid intelligent manufacturing, Y-Lab has received major funding from a national project and was invited to publish a review in Physics Reports.

 

Y-Lab has successfully achieved industrialization of chemical mechanical ultra-pure polishing abrasives at the nano level.

 

Y-Lab has made significant breakthroughs in the atomic-level preparation of SiC-coated materials, greatly enhancing their lifespan and performance.

The Excellent Young Scientists Fund Program (Overseas)

Introduction

The Excellent Young Scientists Fund Program (Overseas) aims to attract and encourage outstanding young scholars (including international talents) who have achieved notable accomplishments in natural sciences, engineering, and related fields to come to work in China. Scholars are encouraged to independently choose their own research directions and conduct innovative studies.

 

Application Criteria

Applicants for the Excellent Young Scientists Fund Program (Overseas) should meet the following criteria:

 

（1）Comply with the laws and regulations of the People's Republic of China, possess good scientific ethics.

（2）Born on or after January 1st , 1985.

（3）Hold a doctoral degree.

（4）The main research focus shall cover natural sciences, engineering, and related fields.

（5）After obtaining a doctoral degree and before April 15, 2025, the applicant is generally expected to have held a formal teaching or research position at an overseas university, research institution, or corporate R&D institution, with a continuous work experience of at least 36 months. For those who have obtained a doctoral degree overseas with outstanding achievements, the work experience requirement may be appropriately relaxed.

（6）Have acquired research or technical achievements recognized by peers, and possess the potential to become an academic leader or outstanding talent in the field.

（7）Applicants who have not yet returned to work in China full-time or who returned to work in China on or after January 1, 2024, must resign from their overseas positions or have no employment overseas upon receiving the funding notification. They are required to work full-time in China for a minimum of 3 years.

（8）Restrictive Requirements：Adhere to the requirements of central authorities regarding the coordinated integration of national science and technology talent plans. Individuals at the same level of the national science and technology talent plan can only undertake one project and are not allowed to apply for projects at a lower level.

 

Research Areas

Y-Lab is recruiting talents in the following areas (but not limited to):

• Semiconductor materials and devices
• Green chemical engineering
• High-performance structural and functional materials
• Intelligent manufacturing and advanced equipment

For applicants whose research directions are not within the aforementioned fields, Y-Lab will maintain an open mindset and support outstanding individuals with research directions of significant value.

 

Special Policy

For outstanding talents who meet the requirements from Y-Lab but have not been successful in applying for support from the Excellent Young Scientists Fund Program (Overseas), Y-Lab will provide equivalent support and benefits.

 

Support and Resources

With strong research support, great innovation ecosystems, complete access to resources, competitive remuneration and benefits as well as professional services to help you settle in, you can focus on research and develop your career together with the Y-Lab.

 

Remuneration

The pre-tax annual income will be no less than RMB 800,000 per year (for special talents, terms are negotiated on a case-by-case basis, including year-end performance bonuses, excluding the employer's contributions to social insurance and housing provident fund). Upon selection, one can receive up to RMB 3.5 million in rewards from various levels of government. Eligibility for tax subsidies for overseas high-level talents is also provided.

 

Research Funding

Building upon the national scientific research funding support of 1 to 3 million RMB, Y-Lab will provide an additional research fund of no less than 10 million RMB over a five-year period, tailored to the specific needs of the research project. The start-up research funding will be allocated within one week of the researcher's arrival. Subsequent funding will be disbursed according to the project's progress. Upon completion of the project term, ongoing support will be considered and provided based on the project's nature and requirements.

 

Research Team

Personnel will be allocated based on the actual needs of research development. Priority will be given to securing graduate student enrollment quotas for joint programs with partner institutions like the University of Nottingham Ningbo China. There will be no cap on the recruitment of postdoctoral fellows.

 

Housing

Talents will be provided with fully furnished apartments ready for immediate occupancy, along with corresponding rental subsidies ranging from 2500 to 3000 RMB per month. Additionally, they will be eligible for talent housing or home purchase subsidies in accordance with Y-Lab's policies.

We guarantee that our researchers enjoy up to 90% dividends from their technology transfer profit.

For basic research, each research project will be led by a Principal Investigator and assessed across a longer-term; for major technology development, each project will be managed through a collaborative model; for highly integrated industrial technology, we will form a collaborative team with members from government, industry, university and research.
